Puerto Viejo Area

If you desire more social interaction with the colorful locals or international travelers, just walk 10 minutes down the beach or road to the center of this small resort town known for its world class surfing and fine but casual restaurants. There you will find about 25 restaurants suitable to a wide variety of tastes, grocery stores, pharmacy, internet cafes, bike and scooter rentals, tour and excursion offices, liquor store, a bank and lots of shopping.

The website Puerto Viejo Satellite has extensive area information including area transportation info, answers to questions about money, tours and activities and more.

Our tour partner, Gecko Trail Adventures, can help you make arrangements for your entire Costa Rica trip including transportation to Puerto Viejo or around the country, packages to Arenal and Monteverde, Tortuguero, Bocas del Toro and more, and all sorts of fun activities from Canopy tours to Whitewater rafting to Scuba diving and much more.  You can also visit them at their office open daily at nearby hotel Banana Azul, just a few minutes north from us along the beach, where you'll also find a restaurant and bar.

Directions to our house, Casa Fiesta

We are located in the Playa Negra area of Puerto Viejo.

Susana our Property Manager phone number is 2750-0519 when calling from anywhere in Costa Rica.

On arrival, she will be there to greet you and orient you to the house and area.

Driving

To get through San Jose the best thing to do is to ask your car rental agency or hotel for directions to Route 32 to Limon. You can also hale a cab driver and ask to follow them to Route 32 for $10. This will save you a lot of time if you get lost instead of driving around.

Take Route 32 out of San Jose for about 3 hours to the city of Limon. Before you get to Limon you will see a sign for Route 36 to Puerto Viejo.

Turn right on Route 36 and travel for about 45 minutes until you come to a “Y” in the road. Route 36 turns to the right and a sign will direct you straight to Puerto Viejo. Take this road for about 10 minutes until you see the ocean straight ahead.

Right before you get to the ocean there is a road that only goes to the left. There is a small grocery store on the right and a bus stop shelter on the left at this intersection. This is our street.

Turn left. There is a row of about 8 houses on the right side and Casa Fiesta is next to the last house on the right before the road curves to the right. We have a chain link fence and gate at the entrance of our driveway. The sign on our fence says CASA FIESTA.

Bus, Shuttle

There are 4 public buses per day linking Puerto Viejo, Cahuita, Limon, and San Jose. From Puerto Viejo center, it's a 5 minute taxi ride to us. There are also several shuttle companies which offer door to door service from most hotels in San Jose and Arenal directly here. Click here to make a shuttle booking request.

Schedules for buses as well as driving instructions, private and shared tourist shuttle bookings and all sorts of detailed info on getting to the area can be found here.

One really memorable way to get here from San Jose or Arenal is to take a whitewater rafting trip. They'll pick you up at your hotel in the morning, bring you on a day of adventure and then drop you off at Casa Fiesta at the end of the day. And since the rafting location is halfway between San Jose and Puerto Viejo your day is spent in fun not in transit! Click here for rafting details and booking information.

If you want to get here straight off your international flight, consider hiring a van and driver that will meet you at the airport and bring you right here.

What are people saying about us?Robert / Ed from Denver, Colorado     June 10, 2010

We stayed at Casa Fiesta for the second time May 16th through May 28th. It was, as we learned from our previous trip, EXACTLY what we love. The tranquility, relaxation and location are so great, we instantly felt "at home" once again. We also enjoy the local family we came to love, that being the dogs. So much fun to have them follow you everywhere you go, sleep outside and wait for you to get up to enjoy another day together. We love the house, local area, Susanna, the manager who lives very near is a sweetheart, we enjoy it all. So, guess what? We are planning on returning yet again in January for my birthday! The pool was such a great addition from last year, refreshing and private. We enjoy chilling out, going to the beach, exploring the local area so Casa Fiesta has become our favorite destination. Thank you Sue for the beautiful place Ed and I both love so much. We have NO complaints and can't wait to return! We miss Mr. Paws and Blacky, love those dogs!!

The house, the grounds and the pool!! Great!! Well equipt. You can walk to town via the beach in 15 mins. What could be better. The people we meet and the dogs that come to visit are all truly treasures. Tup and Ro for the best message and yoga ever at Serenity South just a walk away! This was our third stay and it just gets better each time! If you come please accept the dogs that come to say hi! Feed them, pet them, they are your vacation dogs, they are just great. Good little pals they will follow you everywhere, guard you when you are there and eat any leftovers as will the horses that come to visit. A special experience! We will be back!

Casa Fiesta was really a beautiful place to stay. We enjoyed Jeffery & boi-boi's hospitality at the local tavern. Downtown was really accessible being only a 15 min walk. The sound of the sea was really relaxing at night. We highly recommend it for a relaxing vacation.

What are people saying about us?Bob and Jan from Fort Collins, Colorado     February 12, 2010

We enjoyed the casa for 2 weeks in January and had a great time. Excellent accomodations for 2 couples or more if you rent the additional bungalow. The location is perfect! Not right in town and close enough to walk if you want.

We rented a car locally from Poas and explored. Next visit we will rent bikes as you can get anywhere you would want on a bike.

Beach right out the front door. Pool if you like but the ocean is the way to go. The screened in patio sure took care of the bug problem but they weren't to bad.

Within an easy walk is a small store the has the essentials and next door is Jeffrey's Tavern and Boi Boi's Jamaican BBQ. Must visit this place and get to know Jeffrey and Boi Boi.

Our two week stay at your house and Puerto Viejo was spectacular!!!! We loved the area and the people so much we are in the process of buying land not to far from your home. It is true that Puerto Viejo is not for everyone, but if you like diversity, a laid back environment and the friendliest people then you too will love this area.

We were a group of 10 people. Our family of four stayed at Casa Fiesta in the main house and a couple stayed at the apartment above the garage, the other family stayed next door at Pedro’s place. Every night we would come together for dinner in the screened in porch, which was bug free to relax, have lots of laughter and listen to the ocean or take a late night swim in the new pool which was an absolute bonus. The hammock on the porch was the most desired location. The house was a prefect location with the ocean in our backyard with wild horses that would visit throughout the day, a 15 minute walk into town to shop and meet the locals, which were the friendliest and most welcoming people. If we needed to travel farther we would ride our bikes that we rented for a week or use the bus system, which was easy to use and located right down the street from the house. Your property is literally a piece of paradise that we would love to come back and visit again.

In addition your property manager Suzanna was an absolute gem, who made our experience even more memorable with a guided tour of how the Bribri make chocolate, and help making other excursion plans.

What are people saying about us?Tom and Jo from Loveland, Colorado     June 07, 2009

We both wanted you to know we had an absolutely wonderful time at your house and in Puerto Viejo. The house was perfect, and very well stocked. We loved using the porch, the bugs really like me so I especially appreciated that. We enjoyed the music CDs you had, they really fit in with the "mood". Susanna was wonderful, and very helpful.

Puerto Viejo was so much fun, we were surprised to see so many Anglos, I think hippies from Boulder congregate there! We took ATVs down south, and hit all the beautiful beaches. Driving in the big cities was a challenge, but people along the way were very helpful. We drove back to San Jose through the mountains, and I couldn't make my camera work fast enough, the produce fields were amazing!

We found CASA FIESTA through VRBO and what a GEM! We arrived in Costa Rica May 2nd, after flying to San Jose, we drove to Puerto Viejo for a fantastic 9 night stay.

Casa Fiesta is located in a VERY secluded, beautiful and peaceful location in Puerto Viejo. There are no loud cars, traffic, you hear nature and crashing waves instead!

The house, a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom FULLY furnished, air conditioned house is dynamic. There is security, the entire house is surrounded by a gated fence with secure locks All the windows have bars on them, the outside is very beautiful and very well kept. The security measures make you feel safe, although we never encountered ANY problems during our entire stay that would make us feel uncomfortable. The inside of the house is very spacious and exceptionally clean. There happens to be EVERY POSSIBLE item needed from plates, pots and pans, bowels, towels, sheets, pillows, glasses, refrigerator, TV, CD player, washer and dryer, utensils, hangers, lounge chairs on the lanai, ceiling fans, phone with calls within Costa Rica, a safe, digital alarm clocks...we were speechless as there is not ONE item needed beyond what is included!! It truly is like being at home yet away from home in a BEAUTIFUL location, one that leaves lasting memories that will remain forever.

The screened lanai is a wonderful addition to the house. A lazy siesta in the hammock while watching and listening to the waves crash on the beach is truly pristine! The lanai has great lighting for the evening, party lights (white tube lights) line the ceiling which give a great look and wonderful mood setting for the delightful warm and tranquil evenings. The property owner is very friendly and very helpful. She (Sue) takes the time to answer any questions you may have and has a local property manager who lives very near the house (Susana) which is very convenient if you do need anything.

We enjoyed Casa Fiesta so much, we really didn't want to leave and plan a detailed, busy itinerary on our vacation. We simply enjoyed the location, the small trendy town of Puerto Viejo but a lot of time, just being at Casa Fiesta was a treat in itself.

Located right down the road, a simple walk is a local store where you can exchange the 5 gallon water bottles as often as you want, making sure to have fresh water at all times to drink and cook with, along with ANY item you may need from envelopes to milk! We plan to return time and time again as we found a wonderful place, one that can only be enjoyed by a visit!
